Funding Guidelines
& Application Procedures

PROGRAM RELATED INVESTMENTS (PRIs)

A Program Related Investment (PRI) is a hybrid between a standard grant and a traditional investment. A PRI is a loan made to a qualifying nonprofit organization that is paid back to the Foundation over time.

Prior to submitting an application, the guidelines and criteria described should be carefully reviewed to determine whether your organization and project or program match the stated funding priorities of Hutton Foundation.

Applicants are asked to submit a written summary of their request, completed application form and requested financial data to Hutton Foundation for review. The request summary may not exceed three pages and must be signed by the presiding officer of the board and the executive director of your organization indicating that both board and chief staff person have approved submission of the proposal.

The request summary must include the following information:

  • A brief history of the organization and its work
  • A description of the proposed project or program including community need, problem or opportunity
  • A list of ALL entities asked to provide financial support to the proposed project or program (including their responses to date and dollar amount committed)
  • The project budget (both income and expenses), as well as plans to support the project after the funding period expires
  • Specific plans to evaluate the project

The Hutton Foundation PRI Advisory Board will consider requests of $50,000 to $500,000 for construction, renovation and acquisition of land or buildings as a PRI. Requests in this category are limited by the following guidelines:

  • PRI commitments are generally 1 to 7 years
  • Interest rates offered are generally at or below market rate with reduced fees
  • Rate of return will be negotiated on a project by project basis
